Southampton is located in the Suffolk County, New York and it is a town with a population of approximately 4,000. The history of the town dates back to the 17th century, when it was founded by settlers coming from Lynn, Massachusetts. Southampton received its name after the Earl of Southampton and is New York's oldest English settlement.
The climate in Southampton is warm, sometimes classified as humid subtropical, with humid summers and cool winters. There are between 2,400 and 2,800 hours of sunshine annually, which makes the climate a moderately sunny one. The warm climate and beauty of the area have attracted tourists here since the mid-1800s.
Southampton is a safe place to visit or to live in and it features several ocean beaches, including the renowned Cooper’s Beach. Some of the attractions in the area include the Southampton Historical Museums and Research Center, the Parrish Art Museum and several golf courses. The Southampton Historical Museums and Research Center is a place to discover permanent and temporary exhibitions related to the history and development of the area. The Parish Art Museum was built in 1898 and features a collection of sculpture reproductions, including busts of Roman emperors and a marble copy of Augustus' Prima Porta statue.
